A-State’s Kostick, Dooley and Desbiens Shaw All Receive Three-Year Contract Extensions

JONESBORO, Ark. (7/18/24) – Arkansas State Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics Jeff Purinton announced Thursday that head women’s bowling coach Justin Kostick, head women’s soccer coach Brian Dooley and head women’s golf coach MJ Desbiens Shaw have all received three-year contract extensions.

All three have compiled the most victories among all head coaches in school history for their respective sports.  Dooley and Kostick have earned multiple Sun Belt Conference and National Tenpin Coaches Association Coach of the Year honors, respectively, while Desbiens Shaw led the Red Wolves to their first postseason appearance in school history this past year.

Kostick is set to enter his 16th season leading the women’s bowling program in 2024-25 after finishing three of the last four years as the NCAA national runner-up.  The Red Wolves have qualified for the NCAA Championship all 15 seasons during his tenure and had multiple All-America selections each of the last 13 years.

Dooley was named Arkansas State’s head women’s soccer coach on Jan. 12, 2015, and has led the Red Wolves to a pair of Sun Belt Conference regular-season titles over the last four seasons.  Set to enter his 10th season at A-State in 2024, he was tabbed the Sun Belt’s Coach of the Year in both 2020 and 2021.

During her first 14 season as head women’s golf coach, Desbiens Shaw led the Red Wolves to a top-three finish at 41 tournaments and to 16 tourney titles – both the most in school history among all head coaches.  Not only did A-State make its first ever postseason appearance last year at the National Golf Invitational, it posted a program-record 294.42 stroke average.  In fact, the Red Wolves’ top 10 all-time season stroke averages have all come under the direction of Desbiens Shaw.

The Athletics Department recently announced plans to celebrate the milestone 50th anniversary of women’s sports at the school throughout the 2024-25 academic year.  The celebration will include special ticket offers and events, Alumni Nights for all women’s sports, commemorative teams announced and more.
