Saints Bowling Teams Compete in Season Opener at Jackson Open


Jackson, Mich. — Aquinas men’s and women’s bowling teams started their 2024 season at the Jackson Open on September 28, 2024, at JAX60. Both teams competed fiercely in a field of talented teams across the conference. The Men’s team narrowly missed the podium, putting them at fourth place. The women’s team battled their way to eighth.

Men

The Saints started their season with a solid fourth-place finish, tallying a total of 5,812 pins. Competing against 14 teams, the Saints displayed consistency but faced tough competition from Lawrence Tech, which secured the top spot with 6,287 pins.

Aquinas’ best team performance came in Game 3, where they recorded 968 pins, with standout performances from Anthony Deluccia, who totaled 575 pins across three games, and Abery Thomas III, who scored 557 pins. Michael Deming also contributed with 516 pins, and Dylan Maurer scored 479.

The Saints performed admirably, finishing behind Lawrence Tech, Spring Arbor, and Concordia. They showcased potential for the rest of the season, building momentum for their upcoming matches.

Men’s Individual Standings Highlights:

  • Deluccia placed 23rd, with games of 204, 174, and 197, totaling 575 pins.
  • Thomas III placed 30th, scoring 137, 190, and 230, totaling 557 pins.
  • Deming placed 53rd, scoring 190, 158, and 168, totaling 516 pins.
  • Maurer placed 74th, scoring 150, 169, and 160, totaling 479 pins.

Women

The Aquinas women’s team placed eighth out of 13 teams, with a total of 5,113 pins. The Saints had a promising start, especially in Game 1, where they posted 822 pins, but they faced challenges maintaining consistency throughout the event. Concordia led the tournament with 5,932 pins, leaving Aquinas 819 pins behind the leaders.

The Saints’ strongest individual performance came from Kayla Van Linden, who totaled 515 pins, placing 30th overall in the singles standings. She was supported by Carley Blanchard and Chloe Fisk, who contributed with scores of 452 and 447 pins, respectively. However, despite solid efforts, the team couldn’t break into the top half of the field.

Women’s Individual Standings Highlights:
