Aquinas in 23rd Place out of 53 Teams After Day One of Midwest Collegiate Championships


Milwaukee, Wis. – The Aquinas men’s bowling team also traveled to Wisconsin, but to AMF Lanes in Milwaukee. The Saints competed in a field of 53 total teams and saw themselves finish the first day of competition in 23rd after the first five games. AQ totaled 4,881 pins over the five games and are less than 200 pins away from the next 10 teams above them on the leaderboard.

Aquinas was consistent all day, but a strong 1,062-pin fifth game allowed the team to jump up a couple of spots on the leaderboard to end the first day. In total, AQ bowled games of 979, 946, 921, 973, and 1,062 for the 4,881-pin total.

Michael Deming was by far AQ’s standout performer today, placing 7th in a field of 398 competitors. He had a monster day, bowling 245, 206, 215, 224, and 245 for 1,135 pins, averaging 227 pins per game.

Abery Thomas III was the only other Saint to bowl all five games. Thomas III also had a strong day, ending in 60th with scores of 209, 184, 213, 211, and 213 for a total of 1,030 pins for an average of 206 pins per game.

Bradyn Curtis bowled four games with scores of 197, 202, 160, and 132. Ian Carmichael provided a massive boost down the stretch with scores of 182, 209, and 200 in games three, four, and five.

Anthony Deluca also helped provide a boost in the last two games. After bowling a 169 in game one, he returned to score 197 and 202 in the fourth and fifth games. Josh Boersma also bowled three games, scoring 159, 206, and 151 across those three games.
