STRUTHERS, Ohio (10/1/24) – Opening its 2024-25 season, the Arkansas State women’s bowling team was 3-2 in head-to-head Baker matches on the first day of the Penguin Classic at Holiday Bowl.
A-State got off to a slow start with No. 19 Valparaiso topping the Red Wolves 893-870. Finding their grove, the Red Wolves rolled a 234 in the final game of match two to top No. 21 McKendree 937-862. A-State followed with a 1,076-873 win over Lewis with three of five games totaling over 200 pins, including a high of 240 in game two. Host No. 3 Youngstown State edged the second-ranked Red Wolves 1,045-990 in match four, but A-State closed the day defeating No. 5 Nebraska 986-903.
Nine different bowlers saw action for the Red Wolves over the five matches Friday. A-State enters Saturday’s action fifth in total pinfall with 4,859 pins, an average of 194.4. Nebraska leads the field with 5,388 (215.5) followed by Youngstown State (5,203), Wichita State (5,043) and Duquesne (5,007).
Five traditional matches are on tap Saturday ahead of three bracket matches on Sunday. A-State is scheduled to face Bryant, Roberts Wesleyan, Central Missouri, Wright State and No. 25 Niagara in traditional matches.
