Dores Sweep on Day 2 in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – Vanderbilt bowling had an unbeaten day at Destination Orlando Saturday and currently sits in third heading into the final day of competition. The Dores collected wins over Daeman, Wright State, No. 7 Louisiana Tech, Emmanuel and No. 13 Tulane at AMF Sky Lanes in Orlando.

“Overall, I thought we competed well today,” head coach John Williamson said. “We put ourselves in a good position to be in the championship bracket Sunday. We need to start strong tomorrow and build momentum going into bracket play.”

Jacksonville State, voted preseason No. 1, sits atop the leaderboard with 10,546 pins. Arkansas State and Vanderbilt are in second and third with respective pin totals of 10,435 and 10,419.

Graduate student Isabel Allen bowled her way to a top five individual finish, posting scores of 215, 226, 218, 226 and 264. Junior Victoria Varano and senior Paige Peters were also ranked among the top 20 individual performances.

The Dores started the day with a lineup of Allen, junior Alyssa Ballard, sophomore Natalie Kent, Varano and Peters. Senior Kailee Channell and freshmen Sydney Bohn and Saphyre Nofuente saw game action as well. It was Bohn and Nofuente’s collegiate bowling debut.

Vanderbilt’s highest match score of the day came in its win over Wright State where the team tallied 1,130 pins. Varano contributed a clean 259 to the Dores’ total, striking eight times in a row to close out the game. Peters posted Vandy’s highest individual score of the day, recording 11 consecutive strikes to shoot 279.

Wins over seventh-ranked Louisiana Tech and No. 13 Tulane were other highlights of Saturday’s action. Once again, Vanderbilt posted pin totals over 1,000 in four of its five matches.

The Dores will bowl host Sacred Heart Sunday at 7:25 a.m. CT in a final qualifying Baker Match to determine the tournament bracket. Action is streamed on YouTube.
