Kaylee Back Leads A-State to 5-0 Day at Destination Tournament


ORLANDO, Fla. (10/19/2024) – Junior transfer Kaylee Back posted a tournament best 234.6 scoring average over five traditional matches to help the Arkansas State women’s bowling team to a 5-0 day at the Destination Tournament.

Back, a transfer from Oklahoma Christian, downed 1,173 pins over the five matches to pace the field. She rolled a high of 279 against Monmouth and put down 264 against Florida A&M. Saralyne Nassberg ranked 10th individually rolling 1,117 pins for an average of 223.4. Karli VanDuinen totaled 1,044 and Katie Ruszczak added 994 pins over five games. Maggie Thoma downed 621 pins over three games and Melanie Straub put down 390 in the first two games.

Adding to a 4-1 start on Friday, the Red Wolves extended their win streak to eight with the 5-0 day. A-State opened the day with a 1,020-937 tally against Emmanuel and backed it up with a 973-946 margin against Alabama State. Behind Back’s 279, A-State topped Monmouth 1,087-928 in game three. The Red Wolves moved to 4-0 with a 1,127-663 victory against Florida A&M and closed out the day with a 1,132-1,081 triumph over No. 6 North Carolina A&T.

A-State moved up to second in total pinfall with a two-day, 10-match total of 10,435 (208.7). Jacksonville State maintains the lead with 10,546 pins (210.9) while Vanderbilt (10,419), Nebraska (10,330), Stephen F. Austin (10,158), Sacred Heart (10,038), Youngstown State (9,959), Louisiana Tech (9,882), North Carolina A&T (9,775) and Duquesne (9,506) complete the top 10.

One final Baker match Sunday morning will determine the final pinfall standings ahead of two rounds of bracket play. A-State faces Daemen University in the Baker match.
