Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Aquinas Saints men’s bowling team hosted The Nelson on this beautiful fall day (Oct. 19), at Station 300, and delivered a strong performance, securing second place overall. Competing against some of the top teams in the region, including powerhouse Madonna and Davenport, the Saints accumulated a total of 5172 pins, just 311 pins shy of Madonna’s winning total of 5483.
Aquinas started off well, but it was in Game 3 where they truly shined, posting a remarkable 1042 pins—the highest single-game score of the tournament. However, in the Baker rounds, the team couldn’t maintain the same momentum. Scores of 765, 816, and 697 in those games weren’t enough to close the gap with Madonna, who consistently performed across all stages of the competition. Despite the second-place finish, Aquinas showed depth and resilience, a sign of good things to come.
Individually, Ian Carmichael led the charge for Aquinas with a stellar performance in the singles competition. He finished third overall, scoring 660 pins across three games, with standout scores of 225 and 232 in his final two games. His consistency helped keep Aquinas in contention throughout the day. Another key contributor was Micheal Deming, who placed 13th overall. He had a slow start but finished strong with a Game 3 score of 257, totaling 606 pins for the day. Abery Thomas rounded out the varsity highlights, finishing in 30th place with 531 pins, providing crucial support to the team.
On the junior varsity side, Trey Richmond delivered a standout performance. He placed fifth overall in the singles competition with a total of 651 pins, including a remarkable 253-pin game that showcased his potential. Other notable contributions came from Brendan Madej, who finished with 554 pins, and Tony DeLuccia, who scored 539 pins, finishing 17th and 25th, respectively.
Overall, the Aquinas Saints proved to be formidable contenders on their home lanes. While Madonna took home the title, the Saints’ performance, both individually and as a team, was a testament to their strength and depth. With key players like Carmichael and Richmond stepping up, the team appears poised for success as they move deeper into the season.
