Bulldogs Place First at Virginia Union Invitational


MIDLOTHIAN, Va. | The Alabama A&M Bulldogs placed first at the conclusion of the Virginia Union Invitational, finishing with a 9-1 record over the weekend. The Bulldogs were paced by Tamrya Long’s 939 points, followed by Rose Ugbinada’s 909 points, which landed them both in the All-Tournament team.  


 

The tournament was hosted by Virginia Union University, and attended by Fayetteville University, Howard University, Norfolk State University, Coppin State University and Virginia State University.  


 

The Maroon and White only dropped the final traditional match, falling Coppin State 963-846. All five Bulldogs found themselves in the top 20 of the scoring list, with the top five being selected to the All-Tournament team.  


 

Player Performances: 

  • Tamyra Long: Averaged 187. 8 over five games, leading the team and earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team. 

  • Rose UgbinadaAveraged 181.8 with her best performance in the fourth traditional match, rolling a 232 – the second highest of the tournament- and earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team 

  • Alexis Orchard: Strong showing with an average of 170.8 over five games, and landing 10th overall.
