Bowling takes fourth at Storm Baker Challenge


ADDISON, Ill. — The Augustana Vikings bowling team placed fifth out of 10 teams at the two-day Storm Baker Challenge on Sunday. The team bowled 40 games and averaged 154 on Saturday and 163 on Sunday to secure their best outing. 

The team shot 80 percent single-spares, the highest of the season, while hitting over the 200 mark on three separate occasions and had their first clean game with a score of 197. Maddie Lathrop led the team as she closed out 81.3 percent of all her frames and cleared 89.5 single-pin spares. Cassie Kontos followed with 80.2 percent in all frames and 88 percent single-pin spares. Kontos anchored the team to close out 100 percent of the 10 frames she anchored. 

Sarah Stevanovic closed 80 percent of her 1st frames and collected 80 percent single-pin spares over the weekend. Samantha Olson shot 35.7 percent for split conversions and Stevanovic followed with 33.3 percent. Cami Flores transitioned the team from leadoff to the close of the lineup in the third position spot to help the team push through their frames. 

The team will travel to Lansing, Mich. on January 18-19 for the D3 Invite hosted by Elmhurst.
