The Barton Community College men’s bowling team took on its’ toughest test of the early season this past weekend at the tier-1 Mid-States Championships held at North Rock Lanes in Wichita, KS.

Competing as one of three NJCAA programs, the Cougars mounted a 20th place finish in the field of 31 teams blasting down 9,189 pins over six individual games and 20-Baker games. Claiming the team title was host school Wichita State University accounting for 11,250 pins edging out St. Ambrose University’s runner-up 10,681 and cross-town rival Newman University’s 10,625.

Fresh off a third and fourth place finish at last weekend’s SWIBC I and II, Bryce Moore remained the top Barton bowler recording a 63rd place finish in the stacked field of 283 participants. Moore posted a six game 1,163 while recording a trio of games over the 200-mark.

V-Thoon Thanasouk fell just five spots back of Moore earning a 68th finish tipping 1,149 pins in six games and also recorded three games over the 200-plateau.

Bowling in just five games, Oscar Rubio paced the varsity team with the highest game score of 234 and averaged a team high 194.4 earning a 126th finish.

Leading the Barton JV squad was Aidan VanMetre‘s 93rd best pin count of 1,081 while Cale McConnell secured the highest individual round and average score between the two Cougar teams with a 237 score in his first of five rolled games and tournament average of 187.6.

Barton’s next action comes this weekend in the 13th Annual Hammer Lions Classic held in St. Charles, Missouri.
