D’IBERVILLE, Miss. – At the close of the opening day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Round-Up, Alabama A&M is tied with Alabama State and Southern at 4-1 to lead the way on Friday inside Cypress Lanes.
The Bulldogs dropped their opening match on the day against Southern, 917-866, before picking up their last four with wins over Prairie View A&M 904-805 in the second and 923-858 over Florida A&M in the third match.
Meanwhile, A&M defeated Grambling State in the fourth, 884-821, and concluded the day beating Texas Southern 917-831. The Bulldogs have the second highest pin total at 4,494 for a 179.8 average.
Senior Nariya Jackson (Fort Wayne, Ind.) finished second in the individual standings, ending the day with a pin total of 980 and an average of 196.0 per game.
Fellow senior Montaya Walton (Detroit, Mich.) finished day one in ninth after knocking down 920 pins, good for a 184.0 per game average. Meanwhile, sophomore Asya Wright (Evanston, Ill.) knocked down 648 pins for a 162.0 average, followed by Tamyra Long (Chattanooga, Tenn.) with a pin total of 358 in two matches.
The Bulldogs will have five more matches on Saturday starting with Alabama State and Jackson State, before finishing the day with Southern, Prairie View A&M, and Florida A&M.
