Commodores Climb the Leaderboard on Day 3

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Vanderbilt’s Victoria Varano inched up the leaderboard Friday at the USBC Team USA Trials, but teammate Haley Lindley nearly stole the spotlight with a dazzling performance.

Varano moved from 18th place after the second day into 15th with another steady outing, and the Stony Point, New York, sophomore appears poised to crack into the top 10 with 12 more qualifying games remaining.

Lindley was lights out Friday. The freshman averaged 239.50 over her six games—second best among the 153 bowlers—and shot up the leaderboard from 84th to 41st. While that might appear to be too little, too late to those unfamiliar with the USBC’s scoring system, another big day could put Lindley in the mix.

Alyssa Ballard also had a solid day, climbing from 66th to 53rd, while Caroline Thesier slipped a bit from 40th to 55th. Kaylee Hitt also moved up a few notches into 116th.

Kayla Verstraete is the third round overall leader; complete results are found on online.

The trials continue through Sunday as competitors battle for roster spots to represent the United States. The U.S. amateur title is also on the line for the non-professional competitors.
