A-State Finishes Third at Northeast Classic Going 13-0


NEW CASTLE, Del. (1/21/24) – Adding three Baker best-of-seven wins Sunday against ranked opponents, the sixth-ranked Arkansas State women’s bowling team finished third at the Northeast Classic with a perfect 13-0 record during the event.

A-State (42-10) entered the day sixth in total pinfall and could not finish higher than third in the final standings. The Red Wolves met fifth-seeded and No. 12 Tulane in the first match of the day and downed the Green Wave 4-3 in seven games. Tulane won game one (190-156), four (213-182) and six (229-176), but A-State got the victory with wins in games two (225-216), three (199-158), five (227-183) and seven (202-183).

The Red Wolves met No. 7 Nebraska next and defeated the Huskers in six. A-State got a 2-0 lead in the series with wins of 237-178 and 189-176, but Nebraska got on the board in game three 212-170. The Red Wolves advantage grew to 3-1 with a 242-161 tally in game four, but Nebraska forced an extra game winning 266-178 in game five. A-State clinched the victory winning game six 238-183.

Meeting No. 3 Youngstown State in the battle for third place, the Red Wolves came away the 4-3 advantage in the Baker best-of-seven series. A-State took game one, 211-145, but Youngstown State won games two (223-203) and three (245-170) to take the lead. The Red Wolves won games four (226-223) and five (187-179) by a combined 11 pins to lead 3-2, but the Penguins forced game seven with a 203-191 margin in game six. A-State clinched the victory with a 199-190 triumph in game seven.

The Red Wolves return to action next weekend at the Prairie View Invitational Jan. 26-28 in Arlington, Texas. A-State hosts its annual Mid-Winter Invitational Feb. 16-18 at Hijinx Family Entertainment Center in Jonesboro.
