Fraticelli, Wong Lead Bowling Again at New Jersey Open

Stratford, N.J. – With the days trickling down toward the ECC Championship, the Adelphi University women’s bowling team competed at the New Jersey Open — hosted by Monmouth University and Fairleigh Dickinson University — this past weekend at 30 Strikes Lanes in Stratford.

As the tournament got underway with Baker matches on Friday, the Panthers ran into familiar ECC opponents, both former and current.

Even despite an 0-5 finish against the likes of Wilmington and No. 22 Kutztown, Blanca Fraticelli still bowled her highest Baker average (178.4) of the New Year to lead all ‘Cats. The team captain converted 68.6 percent of her spares and 90.9 percent of her single-pin tries to post her highest fill rate since November at 80.5 percent.

Tiffany Wong also made over half her spares, in addition to throwing more than 40.0 percent strikes (a season-high) in the Baker competition. She and Erica DeJesus both averaged over eight pins on their first ball on the tournament’s first day.

With Fraticelli and Wong each rolling a 200 game, the ‘Cats bounced back the following morning, winning three of five traditional matches. The Brown and Gold even stood toe-to-toe with No. 25 FDU, losing by a difference of only 32 pins.

Four different starters stepped into the anchor role and averaged over a 170.0 in the 10th frame. Fraticelli, Wong and Carly Wu all placed among the top-half of the traditional leaderboard, with Fraticelli’s 175.4 average pacing all Adelphi bowlers.

Head Coach Arthur O’Connor and the Panthers now have some time off to prepare for the Wildcat Division II Invitational from Feb. 16-18 at Bowlerama in New Castle, Del.
