Red Wolves Third After Opening Day of Mid-Winter Invitational


JONESBORO, Ark. (2/16/24) – Following five Baker matches Friday at Hijinx Family Entertainment Center, the Arkansas State bowling team is third in total pinfall among 18 teams at the annual Mid-Winter Invitational.

A-State (54-15) went 3-2 in head-to-head matches Friday, but stands third in pinfall with 5,227 pins (209.1). Jacksonville State leads with a total of 5,410 (216.4) with Nebraska in second with 5,333. Vanderbilt (5,148), Maryville (4,991), Louisiana Tech (4,985), Youngstown State (4,921), Sam Houston State (4,903), Stephen F. Austin (4,829) and McKendree (4,717) round out the top 10.

The Red Wolves opened the day with a 1,023-1,019 narrow decision against No. 11 Sam Houston. No. 7 Louisiana Tech edged A-State 978-956, but the Red Wolves won their remaining head-to-head matches on day one. A-State topped No. 8 Stephen F. Austin 1,074-909, Jackson State 1,060-900 and Alabama State 1,118-979.

A-State plays five traditional matches Saturday beginning with a match against No. 5 Vanderbilt in the positional round. The Red Wolves remaining traditional matches are against No. 15 Wisconsin-Whitewater, No. 1 Jacksonville State, No. 2 Youngstown State and No. 17 Oklahoma Christian.

Traditional matches get underway at 9:00 a.m. at Hijinx Family Entertainment Center. All A-State matches are streamed live on YouTube.
