BOWIE, MD — The Bowie State women’s bowling team heads to Salem, Va., to compete for the 2024 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Bowling Championship on Saturday, Mar. 23 and Sunday, Mar. 24 held at the Lee-Hi Lanes. The Bulldogs are looking to dethrone the defending champions in Fayetteville State who claimed the title a season ago, snapping BSU’s six-straight championship win-streak.

About the Bulldogs
Bowie State claimed its ninth-straight Northern Division title after turning in a 10-2 performance at the CIAA Event III held in Raleigh, N.C. last weekend. The Bulldogs went through the entire weekend with just two losses that came against Virginia Union, once during the opening day (859-749) and during Baker’s (773-716). BSU went through day two of the event, 4-0 as three Bulldogs rolled a 200-game.
The Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a 43-5 overall record and conference while in the Northern Division, BSU went 33-3 overall (.917) and a Baker’s record of 11-2. The Bulldogs overall record was the highest winning percentage by any CIAA team this season at .896 (45-5). Of the top-15 bowlers in the league, Bowie State has four that rank in the top-15 including Chalia Gray (174.48) at No. 2, TaVera Johnson (173.37) at No. 3, followed by Kamryn Smith (164.30) at No 10 and Olivia Watts at No. 15 with an average of 156.46. Additionally, Fayetteville State tied BSU with the most bowlers in the top-15 list at four as well.
Smith Named CIAA Bowler of the Month
Bowie State’s Smith was named the CIAA Rookie Bowler of the Month for the third time this season announced by the league office this week. A native of Accokeek, Md., Smith led all freshman bowlers with an average of 164.30 for the season that aided the Bulldogs run in the regular season finale last weekend. She also recorded a 200-game four times during the CIAA Event III led by a high of 222 against Virginia Union during opening day.
