RICHMOND, Va. – The Bowie State women’s bowling team placed fifth overall amongst eight teams in the Virginia Union Invitational this past weekend. The Bulldogs went 5-8 overall while tallying 9,348 total pins in 64 games played.
As a team, Bowie State’s highest game was 791 during the fifth traditional match, which was against the Trojans of Virginia State on Saturday. Individually, senior Olivia Watts (Fort Washington, MD) placed 12th out of 56 bowlers, combining for 761 total pinfalls and an average of 152.20 – her highest game was 160 during game two. Both senior Erin Pearson (Bryans Road, MD) and junior Chalia Gray (Glen Burnie, MD) would round out the top-20 rankings individually at 15th and 17th, respectively. Pearson combined for 724 total pinfalls in five matches played while Gray tallied 704 total pinfalls also in five matches.
The opening day for the Bulldogs was highlighted by a 771-498 win over Virginia State but the Bulldogs suffered setbacks against Mt. Saint Mary’s (677-899), Fayetteville State (749-778), Howard (741-757) and Coppin State (653-773). On Saturday, the Bulldogs went 2-3 on the day – capturing victories against Virginia Union (654-562) and Virginia State (791-430).
During the Baker’s round, the Bulldogs defeated Howard twice by the scores of 650-575 and 820-708 as BSU’s lone lost came from FSU (728-807). Bowie State would conclude the invitational 2-1 in Baker’s.
Bowie State will return to action on Nov. 11-13 at the CIAA Event I in Raleigh, N.C. hosted by Shaw. Meet details are forth coming.
