QUINCY, Ill. – The Augustana women’s bowling team traveled to Casino Lanes bowling alley from February 24-26 for the Hawk Invite hosted by Quincy. The Vikings finished fourth out of seven teams in attendance.
The Vikings rolled an 822 to sweep their series against North Central in the first round of Sunday’s championship bracket, setting a new four-game Baker format record rolling an 822. Augie shattered the previous 4-game Baker record of 782 earned in 2018. The Vikings then defeated Quincy 4-3, advancing to a third-place match against Aurora, where they battled the Spartans closely but fell short. Augie eclipsed 30 wins with their triumph over the Hawks, becoming the first team in program history to reach that mark.
Augie improved mightily from Friday to Sunday, upping their average pinfall by 22. A big part of that success was Rose Klinger, who earned a seventh-place finish with her pinfall of 924, averaging 184.8 pins across the weekend. Madelyn Lathrop and Sarah Stevanovic also finished in the top 20, with placements of 16 and 20, respectively. Lathrop dropped 886 pins for a 177 average while converting 66 percent of her spare opportunities. Stevanovic averaged 163 pins per game and led the team in single-pin spares, hitting 23-27. Samantha Novak played only three games in traditional format but earned the highest single-game score for Augie with a 212 roll.
The Vikings will compete in their second CCIW event of the season from March 4-5 in Addison, Ill. Their performance at next weekend’s conference tournament will determine which teams advance to the CCIW Championships in late March. The action from Stardust Bowl can be streamed here.
