ARLINGTON, Texas (1/27/24) – Season-best traditional matches against No. 7 Nebraska and No. 2 Vanderbilt highlighted a 5-0 day for the sixth-ranked Arkansas State women’s bowling team at day two of the Prairie View Invitational.
A-State (50-12) was a perfect 5-0 Saturday, defeating top 10 opponents in four of those five traditional matches. The Red Wolves opened the day with a 945-928 tally against No. 9 Stephen F. Austin and followed with a 1,032-821 victory against Prairie View A&M. A-State topped No. 7 Nebraska with a then-season best 1,104-966 triumph and moved to 4-0 with a 943-908 margin against No. 10 Maryville. The Red Wolves closed the day with a 1,161-1,024 win against No. 2 Vanderbilt with the 1,161 total being the highest in traditional play this season for A-State.
Karli VanDuinen paced A-State with a total of 1,128 pins over five games, an average of 225.6. She rolled over 200 in all five games, with a high of 246 against Prairie View A&M and 243 in the win over Vanderbilt. Her total of 1,128 is her second-highest in traditional play this season. Emma Stull downed 1,019 pins, Faith Welch added 1,017 and Brooklyn Buchanan had 993 in five games played. Aubrey Kiddle bowled in three games and total 584 pins while Maggie Thoma bowled one game and had a total of 180. Malaya Chavez bowled the contest against Vanderbilt and had the front nine before finishing with a total of 264, the second-highest individual game rolled by an A-State bowler this season.
After 10 matches played, A-State is 8-2 for the event with 10,280 total pinfall, an average of 205.6 for third among the 12 teams. Jacksonville State leads with 10,498 pins (210.0) with Youngstown State second with a pinfall of 10,355 (207.1). Nebraska (10,174), Vanderbilt (10,083), Louisiana Tech (9,951), North Carolina A&T (9,852), Sam Houston (9,739), Maryville (9,515) and Stephen F. Austin (9,449) round out the top 10.
