O'Steen First, Lady Hornets Finish Runner-Up in SWAC Regular Season


D’IBERVILLE, Miss. | The Alabama State University women’s bowling team finished as the SWAC Regular Season runner-up after posting a 10-4 record at the SWAC East Round Up over the weekend.
 
Alabama State went 15-6 overall, knocking down 19,810 total pins with a 202.24.
 
Lyric O’Steen, who led three Lady Hornets in the top 10, claimed first overall with 4,247 total pins and a 202.42 average combined over 21 games.
 
Alahna Degruy climbed from 14th into ninth place, finishing with 3,982 total pins and 189.62 average, followed by Savanna Razor in 12th with a 3,995-pin total and a 188.4 average over 21 games.
 
Payton Hartgove claimed 13th overall was second in the freshman standings with a 188.05 average and 3,949 pin falls.
 
Emily Price 22nd overall with 2,647 pins and a 178.40 average over 15 games.
 
Alexzandria Stewart finished fifth in the freshman standings and 32nd overall with a 166.83 average and 1,001 pins over six games.
 
Alabama State opened the first round on Friday, rolling to a 5-0 record before finishing 5-4 over Saturday and Sunday.
 

The Hornets started with a 962-883 win over Jackson State, then defeated Florida A&M 1,055-735 and Alabama A&M, 1026-809. Day one closed with a 960-872 win over Texas Southern and a 958-664 win over Grambling State.
 
Lyric O’Steen had two highest games of the day with a 248 against Alabama A&M and a 247 against Grambling State. Savanna Razor a 238 in the win over Florida A&M.
 

Saturday saw Alabama State went 2-3, beating Jackson State (1034-867) and FAMU (965-682). ASU fell to Prairie View (977-959) before taking down Florida A&M (976-698), Southern University (932-931), and AAMU (1,022-882). 
 
Alabama State posted a 3-1 record on Sunday, defeating Grambling State (981-763), Prairie View (1,009-965), and Southern (1,019-924) and losing to Texas Southern (985-927).
 

Southern claimed the regular season title with a 16-5 record, while Alabama A&M finishing third with a 14-7 record. Texas Southern was fourth (13-8), followed by Prairie View A&M (12-9), Jackson State (10-11), Grambling State (3-18), and Florida A&M (1-20).
