Bulldogs Finish Third at CIAA Bowling Championship


SALEM, VA — The Bowie State women’s bowling team season ended at the 2023-24 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championship, falling to Virginia Union during double elimination Saturday afternoon at Lee-Hi Lanes. The Bulldogs season concludes at 49-7 overall.

How It Happened

The Bulldogs went 4-0 in individual play during championship day one. Bowie State defeated Shaw (775-703), Johnson C. Smith (843-689), Elizabeth City State (846-689) and Livingstone (829-693). BSU closed out day one with a 5-1 decision over Shaw to remain in the winner’s bracket.

BSU moved on to day two with a 1-4 setback to Virginia Union in the second round. The Bulldogs would face the Golden Bulls of JCSU in the loser’s bracket where Bowie State picked up a 4-1 win and a 4-0 sweep over Livingstone to keep its championship dreams alive. However, the Bulldogs would have to face the Lady Panthers in the loser’s bracket – VUU would fall to Fayetteville State by the score of 4-0 to enter the loser’s bracket. Ultimately, Virginia Union defeated Bowie State to set up the championship match with the Lady Broncos, 4-0 who would claim its second-straight conference title in a 4-1 battle. 

TaVera Johnson was named to the All-Tournament team, highlighted by a 203 game against Shaw during day one.
