Lady Hornets Claim 2024 SWAC Bowling Tournament Title


ARLINGTON, Texas | Competing in its third straight Buick SWAC Championship match, Alabama State Bowling made sure the third time was the charm.
 
The Lady Hornets defeated top seeded Southern University 4 and 3 to win the school third SWAC Bowling title under Coach Andrew Chatmon, who is in his 16th season.
 
Alabama State adds the SWAC Tournament title to its previous two titles claimed in 2016-17 and 2021-22. The Lady Hornets have won five titles overall that includes two SWAC Regular Season titles in 2017-18 and 2012-13.
 
“The ladies bowled extremely well all weekend and then when things didn’t go their way they still fought hard, stayed focused, stayed positive and executed and believed and supported each other.” Chatmon said. ” We still have a little work left to do in preparation for the NCAA tournament.
 

No. 2 seed Alabama State defeated Alabama A&M on Friday and Southern on Saturday to advance to the championship match.
 
Southern defeated Jackson State 4 and 3 in an elimination match to set up the rematch with Alabama State that was televised on ESPN+.
 
Alabama State claimed five of the top six places in the individual standings, listed below.

The 2024 NCAA bowling championship selections show will air on NCAA.com at 3 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 27, ahead of regional matches in early April.
 
The NCAA championships will then take place from Friday, April 12, to Saturday, April 13 from Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Michigan.
