Michael Deming Selected to All-WHAC Second Team

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference announced its conference honors for men’s bowling this weekend (Feb. 25-26). One stellar student-athlete from the Aquinas men’s bowling team was recognized as one of the league’s best as junior, Michael Deming, was named to the All-WHAC Second Team. The Saints finished their conference season on Saturday (Feb. 25) with a fourth-place finish at the conference championships.

This is Deming’s first time being named to an All-Conference team after he bowled an average of 200.27 pins per game this season, the seventh-highest figure in the WHAC. This is the second consecutive season that the Saints have been represented in the All-Conference awards after Brandon Foster was named to the All-WHAC Second Team in 2022.

Deming had several great performances this season with his best coming on October 10th of 2022 at the first WHAC jamboree of the season. He averaged 222.25 pins per game after bowling a 247, 202, 258, and 182 at the event.

Deming followed that performance a few weeks later (Oct. 29-30) with another great showing at the first and second AHBA tournaments of the season. He finished in tenth place overall during the first tournament after averaging 217 pins per game. He bowled a 245, 276, 203, 158, and 203 over his five games.

On the very next day, he averaged 208.5 pins per game with individual game scores of 218, 218, 195, and 203.

To be able to qualify for the All-Academic award, the athletes must be a junior or above in academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher. In addition, the student-athlete must have been at Aquinas for at least one full year. Aquinas’ All-Academic honorees are: Jack Wicker, James Ruoff, Jonathan Garland, Kyle Cameron, and Michael Deming.

Senior, James Ruoff, was AQ’s representative on the Champions of Character team. Thompson was chosen as the player that best represents the five core characteristics of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
