A-State Falls to Jacksonville State 2-1


HARAHAN, La. (3/23/24) – The Arkansas State women’s bowling team fell 2-1 to No. 1 Jacksonville State in a mega-match Saturday at the Conference USA Championship and will meet No. 3 Youngstown State in an elimination match Sunday morning.

A-State grabbed the early advantage winning the traditional match 1,095-999. Saralyne Nassberg had a match-high 255 to pace the Red Wolves. Brooklyn Buchanan added 236 pins while Malaya Chavez rolled 215 and Karli VanDuinen put down 204. Maggie Thoma downed 185 pins to add to the Red Wolves total.

Jacksonville State evened the mega-match winning the 5-game Baker total pinfall 1,069-974. Jax State won the first three games to build a 138-pin advantage before coming away with the final margin. A-State came up short in game one 244-205, game two 189-184 and game three 277-183 before taking games four, 224-203, and five 178-156.

Jax State clinched the match winning the first four games in the Baker best-of-seven series. A-State came up short by 30 pins, 200-170, in game one and 37 pins, 227-190, in game two. The deficit swelled to 3-0 with Jax State taking game three 245-201 before Jax State closed it out the match with a 212-191 margin in game four.

A-State meets the Youngstown State in an elimination match Sunday at 9 a.m. The winner will face Jacksonville State for the Conference USA Championship. All matches air on ESPN+.
