Las Vegas, Nev. – After day one of qualifying, freshman Jillian Martin currently holds the top spot at the 2023 United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Team USA Trials with a total pinfall of 1,350 and an average of 225.

Martin is joined by five other Nebraska bowlers, Kendyl Hofmeister, Anna Callan, Marissa Cosentini, Crystal Elliott and Kayla Verstraete, in this week’s tournament, held Tuesday through Sunday at the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.

Elliott currently holds 12th place with a total pinfall of 1,244, with Hofmeister is in 53rd, Verstraete in 85th, Callan in 87th and Cosentini in 127th.

Current Husker Assistant Coach Julia Bond is also competing and is in 22nd place with a total pinfall of 1,196. Husker legend and previous assistant coach Shannon Pluhowsky is in 25th place with a total pinfall of 1,185.

Throughout the week, competitors will earn ranking points based on their finishing positions in each of the qualifying rounds – the top bowler of the block earns one ranking point, (Martin), second place earns two points, etc. – with the lowest total of ranking points after the five blocks determining the Team USA Trials champion, which will earn an automatic spot on Team USA for 2023.
