Lincoln – The Nebraska bowling team rose up one spot from fourth to claim its original pre-season ranking of third nationally in the 2023 NTCA February poll, released on Friday.
In the fall, the Big Red competed in four tournaments beginning with a championship at the Motiv Penguin Classic. The Huskers then placed fourth at the Bearcat Roto Grip Open, seventh at the Track Kat Klash and fifth at the Motiv Ladyjack Classic.
The Huskers had a strong start to the spring semester beginning with a third-place finish at the Stormin’ Blue and White Vegas Classic. NU then dominated a 33-team field at the Northeast Classic going undefeated to claim the second championship title of the season. Additionally, the Huskers then grabbed another third-place finish at the Prairie View A&M Invite.
The Big Red received a total of 1,337 points. McKendree continues its streak in first place with a total of 1,530 points. Vanderbilt snuck in to claim the second place rank with 1,453 points with the previous No. 2 seed North Carolina A&T dropping down to No. 6. Arkansas State and Stephen F. Austin rounded out the top five with ASU at 1,201 and SFA at 1,167.
Up next, the Huskers return to the lanes for their final out of state tournament at the Mid-Winter Invitational in Jonesboro, Ark., February 17-19, hosted by No. 4 Arkansas State.
