Augie caps off record-breaking season at final CCIW event

ADDISON, Ill. – The Augustana women’s bowling team traveled to Stardust Bowl from March 4-5 for the second CCIW event of the season. The Vikings finished fourth out of eight conference teams in attendance.

The Vikings went 2-2 in traditional format across the weekend, securing wins over Aurora and Elmhurst. In their win over the Bluejays, Sarah Stevanovic rolled a tournament and career-high 237, helping Augie win 864-805. Stevanovic finished second among all bowlers with a total pinfall of 752 over four traditional games. Her individual placement is the highest in the program’s history for an event. Stevanovic also led the Vikings in closed frames, cleaning up 85 percent of her traditional frames and 76.7 percent of her Baker frames.

Augie went 2-1 in Baker format, featuring three games where they shot over 200, including a 235 effort in their win over Carthage. The team grabbed two clean games in the format, moving their season total to nine, shattering the previous program record of six last year. From the anchor position, Madelyn Lathrop led the team in strikes, rolling 40 percent in traditional and 43 percent in Baker. She also reached the record books with her 221 clean game, her fourth of the season, tying the record she set a year ago.

Elsewhere, Samantha Olson rolled a 205, the third-highest traditional game for Augustana over the weekend. Olson also ranked second on the team in Baker spare conversions. Rose Klinger closed all of her Baker frames from the leadoff position, with a high roll of 175 in traditional.

After both CCIW events, the Vikings finish in a tie for third in the CCIW regular season but miss out on the top four qualifying for the CCIW Championships due to tiebreakers.

The Vikings will wrap up their season on Friday, March 10 as select bowlers will compete in the USBC Individual Sectionals.
