Varano Paces Dore Bowlers at Team USA Trials

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — A strong day propelled Vanderbilt’s Victoria Varano up the leaderboard Thursday at the USBC Team USA Trials.

The Vanderbilt sophomore and Junior Team USA veteran rose from 42nd after the first day into 18th place among the 153 competitors hoping to land a spot on Team USA or Junior Team USA. Varano’s 1,270 pin count Thursday averaged 211.6 over a stingy oil pattern that kept scores lower than opening day.

Caroline Thesier is in 40th—very near her opening day spot—while Alyssa Ballard slipped to 66th and Hayley Lindley dropped to 84th. Kaylee Hitt is 124th in the feisty field of professionals, All-Americans and junior phenoms.

High schooler Gianna Brandolino of Channahon, Illinois, leads the pack. After opening up in fifth place, she won Thursday’s play averaging 225.

Play continues through Sunday and is being streamed afternoons and late evenings on BowlTV and results are available online.
