2024 Giving Day Exceeds Expectations - Sets New Donor Record

Garden City, N.Y. – For the third consecutive year, the Adelphi University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics raised over $100,000 on Giving Day, setting a new record for number of gifts in 2024.

Each year, Adelphi’s 23 NCAA Division II teams participate in Giving Day to raise funds for equipment, training and competitions, among other needs for the program. This year’s goal was to raise $100,000, with the hopes of beating last year’s total.

Once again, Athletics was the day’s largest recipient of funds across all campaigns, raising $164,987, and secured the highest number of donors—1,004. Current student-athletes, alumni, parents and friends of the programs embraced the winning tradition as 11 campaigns met or beat their goal.

“Thank you to everyone in our Panther family that contributed to this year’s Adelphi Giving Day campaign,” Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation Danny McCabe said.

“Once again it was a banner day for our programs as more than 1,000 alumni, families and friends contributed over $150,000 to the athletics department.  Collectively, our teams brought in more than $100,000 for the third year in a row. The support from our Panther community is truly inspiring.”

Men’s basketball finished with the highest total this year, thanks largely in part by a $30,000 gift in addition to a $12,500 matching challenge from an anonymous donor. The team will use the funds to plan a preseason training trip. Baseball, who has annually seen success on this day raised $27,375 as men’s soccer rounded out the top-three programs with just over $20,000.

“Our community always unites on Giving Day, but achieving record-breaking numbers in both donors and funds raised speaks volumes about the remarkable solidarity within our Adelphi community,” said Thomas A. Kline, EdD, vice president of University advancement and external relations. “We extend our sincerest gratitude to everyone who participated in Giving Day—donors, ambassadors, challenge creators, volunteers and every member of our Panther community. Your collective efforts have made an indelible impact, reflecting the strength and generosity of our community.”

Overall the platform saw $684,564 raised from over 2,000 donors – a new record for the seventh annual event.
