Pluhowsky Finishes Second at PWBA Tour Championship

Dallas, Texas – Former Husker Shannon Pluhowsky earned runner-up honors at the PWBA Tour Championship Tuesday night, falling to Stephanie Zavala, 252-181, in the nationally televised.

Pluhowsky, seeking her second straight PWBA Tour Championship, fell behind early as Zavala, the No. 3 seed, opened the match with five straight strikes. Pluhowsky marked in each of the first four frames, but was unable to convert a spare in the fifth, as Zavala built a 193-96 advantage after five frames.

Pluhowsky struck in the sixth frame and had a spare in the seventh to get within 171-133 after seven frames, but Zavala strung together three straight strikes to pull away and win her first major.

One of the most decorated bowlers in Husker history, Pluhowsky was a three-time NTCA Bowler of the Year Awards (2001, 2004, 2005) and led Nebraska to back-to-back NCAA titles in 2004 and 2005. She also served as an assistant coach on the Huskers’ 2021 national championship team.
