Spartans advance to championship day of CCIW Tournament

The Basics

The Aurora University women’s bowling team will bowl for the 2023-2024 CCIW Tournament Championship on Sunday, March 24 after a pair of 2-1 wins on day one on Saturday, March 23. AU defeated #2 Carthage College and #1 Marian University both by 2-1 scores. In the win over Carthage the Spartans set a school record in Bake format with a 1,057.


First Round Score: #3 Aurora University 2, #3 Carthage College 1

Second Round Score: #3 Aurora University 2, #1 Marian University 1

How it happened

First Round – Carthage

– In the traditional scoring match-up to start the first round, AU fell 873-832.

– AU responded in the baker round with a 1,057 to 815.

– The 1,057 score set a new AU record in a Baker match.

– In the rubber match, best of seven format, AU dominated with a 4-0 victory to advance.

Second Round – Marian

– AU again dropped the traditional match, falling 960-844.

– Once again the AU women responded with a strong 1,027-973 win.

– In the winner take all best of seven, AU defeated the Sabres 4-2.

— The win moves AU to the championship round.

Next action for the Spartan women’s bowling team comes on Sunday, March 24 on the second and final day of the 2023-2024 CCIW Tournament. AU is the last unbeaten team in the double elimination tournament. AU will take on the winner of Marian University and Carthage College for a chance to win the CCIW Tournament title and a bid into the 2023-2024 NCAA Women’s Bowling Championship.
